KnowledgePool designs blended learning programme for Fife Council
29th October 2003
Social Work staff to receive SWIFT training
KnowledgePool, the worldwide learning solutions provider is developing a blended learning programme for 1200 social workers at Fife Council in support of the implementation of SWIFT - a social care system developed by Anite, a leading UK supplier of IT applications for local government. Designed to help social care practitioners tackle the challenges and issues posed by emerging operational practice and constantly changing legislation, SWIFT supports the complex collaborative approach that is required for delivery of modern social care today.
Fife Council Social Work Service (FCSWS) staff will attend a number of classroom based courses to enable immediate, efficient and effective use of the new system which is due to be implemented by April 2004. The course content includes a CD-ROM-based element that individuals will take back to their desks extending and consolidating the face-to-face training and providing a quick refresher resource when required.
The course will also include internal marketing of the new system to ensure that all staff understand the reasons for implementing a new system and the benefits to be gained from reduced administration and quality of reporting. Key to the success of the programme and the ongoing service provided by FCSWS staff is accuracy of data input - so all course attendees will be encouraged to foster a culture of commitment to establish and ensure best practice.

"KnowledgePool clearly understand the factors that contribute to successful learning. By following their recommendation of a blended learning programme I am certain that FCSWS staff will be equipped with the skills and resources to use the SWIFT system efficiently from day one. Quality of customer service is vitally important to us and we are looking forward to improving our performance and the benefits the new system will deliver." Jon Bolton from FCSWS |

"Too often the importance of training is disregarded, contributing to investments in new technology never completely delivering the required benefits. Users must have the necessary skills and knowledge to make full and best use of any system. The flexible training options available today mean there really is no excuse for not closing the loop on new IT implementations." Rab Campbell, senior learning consultant at KnowledgePool |
Fife Council Social Work Service
Every day, Fife Council Social Work Service makes a crucial difference to people's lives at times of personal or family need. The Service seeks to provide the necessary support for people to remain in their own homes and communities; it protects and supports children, young people and adults in need; and helps offenders to change their offending behaviour.
It is the third largest Social Work Service in Scotland - at any one time 15,000 people receive a service. Over 4,000 people are employed in the Service, the second largest in the Council. Public access is provided at seven main offices, although the Service operates out of a total of around 60 facilities throughout Fife.
