Bespoke Evaluation and ROI
Justifying the training budget has become increasingly important and more and more organisations are seeking ways to measure the effectiveness of their learning programmes, to demonstrate return on investment. However whilst 80% of L&D practitioners believe learning delivers more benefit than they can demonstrate, only 36% of organisations attempt to capture the effect of learning on the bottom line (Learning and Development: Annual Survey report 2006, CIPD).
KnowledgePool can help you to develop key performance indicators that are linked to the business goals, and agree the processes and mechanisms required to make these measurements. Using a combination of tried and tested methodologies, technology, our own experience and the that of the wider learning community, we can help formulate an evaluation strategy for anything from a single course, to your entire learning portfolio.
Our consultants design and deliver effective training evaluation strategies, using established methodologies based upon work by Donald Kirkpatrick, Jack Phillips and Robert Brinkerhoff, but we also monitor the latest emerging information, such as the 'Value of Learning' research project from the CIPD and Portsmouth Business School.
Predicting the ROI of Training
KnowledgePool conducted an IT skills assessment for an entire organisation. The research instrument was a series of carefully chosen competency based questions, issued electronically.
6,000 responses were collated automatically and when merged with other organisational data, consisted of well over half a million data items. Within three days of the cut-off date, KnowledgePool presented a detailed analysis to the client and conducted a feedback workshop.
From the results of the skill assessment, we were able to provide our client with:
- a focused training plan to address skill shortages
- an estimate of the cost of the skill shortage to the organisation
- a business case for the training programme, showing a predicted ROI of 10 months
Using traditional methods, such a vast research project would have been unthinkable. Through our use of technology we have enabled our clients to make business decisions based on factual information, where previously there had been conflicting anecdotal evidence.
