Skills Management Methodology
Through the InfoBasis seven-stage skills management model, our consultants can work with you to use ESI to assess your workforce skills, from a single team up to the entire organisation. The seven stage model is as follows:
- Compile skills directory. This is taken from your organisation's competency framework, this includes writing the assessment questions and mapping each skill to corresponding learning activities (in the LiveBooker catalogue).
- Define job roles and functions. Combinations of skills define a function, combinations of functions describe a job role. The output is a skill profile for each job role.
- Organisation structure. This is required to understand reporting structures and membership of different teams.
- Assess skills. An objective self-assessment of each employee's skills, which is conducted on-line.
- Confirm skills. Each employee's self-assessment is reviewed by their line manager. Once agreed, the employee's assessment is confirmed.
- Set objectives. Employee's skills can now be compared to the required skill profile, to identify skill gaps (otherwise thought of as learning objectives).
- Analyse skills. At this stage HR (or other authorised managers) can view the overall skills profile. A wide range of analysis is possible, perhaps to assess the size and nature of the overall learning requirement, or to undertake succession planning. If a projection of future business skill requirements is available (for example, the number of accredited engineers, or qualified project managers) then workforce development planning can be undertaken to identify candidates for upskilling, likely recruitment levels and the size of the overall training requirement to meet the business need.
